This tough trek takes us through the mysterious land of Dolpo; a region to the North of the main Himalayan chain made famous by Peter Mathiessens book. The Snow Leopard. It is protected from the monsoon by the rain shadow of the Dhaulagiri massif, so September is an excellent time it explore herewith the alpine and desert flowers in full bloom.
Dolpo has closer links with Tibet then the Himalayan foothills to the south. It is a land of high passes and remarkable views, populated by a Tibetan related people, some of who still practice Bon, the ancient religion of Tibet the preceded Buddhism. As we trek north to the remote Tarap valley we should meet these semi-nomadic people with their large herds of Yak. Two high passes take us into some of the finest and wildest scenery in Nepal, including remarkable views of the rarely seen north-west face of Dhaulagiri Mountain.
Dolpo is also a national park containing a rich variety of
plants and many rare species of wildlife. We should get the chance to see musk deer, the
rare Himalayan blue sheep and if we are really fortunate, a snow leopard. This trek is not
for beginners perhaps, but for anyone who has trekked in the Himalaya before this has to
be one of the most rewarding experiences available real connoisseurs trek.
Itinerary: Day 1- Depart from hometown, 2/3-Kathmandu, 4-fly to Juphal. 5/21-trekking, 22-fly to Kathmandu, 23 Kathmandu, 24- fly back to home.
